How Many Implants Will I Need for My Implant Denture?

For decades, dentures were the go-to solution for addressing full arches of missing teeth. While conventional dentures can still be utilized as effective treatments, the field of restorative dentistry has progressed over the years with options that are more stable and natural-looking. Implant-supported dentures (also referred to as “implant dentures”) are an advanced and innovative alternative to traditional dentures. This treatment can be helpful for patients who are missing all of their teeth on one or both dental arches and would like a solution that offers more secure teeth replacement in comparison to dentures of the past. The primary difference between the two is the fact that implant-supported dentures rely on dental implants rather than denture pastes or putties to reduce the potential for slipping along the gums.
The exact number of dental implants needed for an implant denture will depend on an individual patient’s dental needs and overall oral health. The implants will be strategically placed in specific areas for maximum stabilization of the custom denture, so the number of dental implants necessary will be determined based on factors such as the present state of jawbone density in certain areas and the location of the teeth that need to be replaced. Once the patient’s oral structures and concerns have been examined and detailed x-rays have been taken, our cosmetic dentist at Sutra Dental Spa, Jimmy Wu, DDS, can recommend the optimal number of implants to secure the denture and develop a customized treatment plan.
Dr. Wu offers a variety of implant-supported denture options, including:

  • All-on-4® The All-on-4® procedure replaces all teeth on either dental arch using just four implants per arch. This technique can support a full set of prosthetic teeth, offering a stable and long-lasting solution that mimics natural dental function and appearance.
  • All-on-6 – The All-on-6 restoration method includes six implants that support a full arch of prosthetic teeth. This technique can provide increased security and distribution of force across the jaw, improving durability and function. It is often ideal for patients seeking a permanent, natural-looking solution for extensive tooth loss.
